PTSA Meeting

January 5, 2010 

Members Present:  Kathy Coatney, Celia Taylor, Sharon Sohn, Lyne Church, Beth Serey, Jennifer Klingeman, Betsy Lowe, Lisa Jarrett, Karen Coffey, Beth Scherer, Karen Siladi 

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by Karen Coffey. 

Guest Speaker: Devon Lowe, NOHS Freshman presented to the PTSA his Eagle project that will establish recycling within the school. He petitioned the PTSA for donations to purchase permanent containers for collecting aluminum cans. He is also seeking donations from the NOHS Booster Club and the school. The total cost for the containers and a dolly for moving is approx. $750. Betsy Lowe made a motion to have the PTSA fund one third of the project or $250. The motion was seconded by Sharon Sohn. The motion was voted on and passed.

 Guest Speaker: Pam Brown, President of Oldham County Dollars for Scholars distributed pamphlets outlining the organizations mission and goals. She made a plea for volunteers for scoring applications received for scholarship money. Several members signed up to volunteer. If interested please contact Pam through website www.ocdfs.org.

 Recording Secretary’s Report:

Minutes from November’s meeting were passed around for review. The minutes can be found on the PTSA’s website. No corrections made to minutes.

 Treasurer’s Report:

Members received copies of the monthly financial statements. Income received this month from new memberships and additional coupon book sales. Expenses paid this month were for Membership Incentives (gift certificates), Reflections, and KY Kids Day.  

 Principal’s Report:

Please add March 4th and March 9th to your calendars for Spring Parent/Teacher conferences. Conferences must be made by appointment only.

Parent Info Night will be held February 18th from 5pm to 7pm. College/Career Night, FAFSA will be held from 5pm to 7pm also. Q&A with the Principal will follow from 7pm to 8:30pm.

 Ways and Means:

To date we have sold 210 books with approx. $600 profit. Sharon will look into a spring fund raiser just in case it is needed.

Senior Breakfast:

Breakfast is scheduled for May 14th at the Seelbach Hotel.

Next meeting will be February 2nd.

Minutes from 11/3/00 PTSA meeting to combine with Lynn’s notes

Karen called to order at approx. 9:05

Ms Jarrett:Fri. Nov 6 @ 6:00 is the Grand opening celebration for the Auditorium. Also kick off for Rachel Richards Steinway fundraiser. Admission is $10.00. Mac McWilliams has done advertising w/in the school district. Might be doing a last minute PR push to get the word out. Ms. Jarrett asked for ideas.  Rachel has received approximately $3000 in donations to date.

Parent Conferences: Scheduled for Nov. 12 and Nov. 17. Notices and One Call went out to parents of students for whom teachers requested a conference yesterday. Parents are using a new online system to schedule the conferences. The information on how to use the system will be sent home Thursday to students and followed by a One Call announcement.

Academic Recognition: Ideas for Recognition are being looked at by the AP teachers  (? Not sure this is correct group).  These teachers want to have banners for recognition and the PTSA might be able to help with the cost of those. Karen Siladi asked why scholarships are not recognized in the newspaper like athletic scholarships. Ms. Jarrett noted that plaques have been put up in the guidance hallway for academic recognition.   Debbie Napier suggested a monthly student(s) of the month rather than something that focuses only on gifted students. Ms. Jarret explained the Rotary Club system of honoring students and this could be the model for a similar program if the PTSA were interested.

Daily Announcements: Karen Siladi asked if the new information could be in a different color font. Ms. Jarrett said the the items are in date order. There is scholarship information that needs to be removed and she will take care of that.

Committee Reports

Ways & Means: Coupon book envelopes going home Wednesday. 

Membership: Lyne Church asked if she had a budget to use for promoting membership. She will use the funds to encourage more memberships.

Communications:  Photos from Stangapalooza and other events are needed to post to website. Ms. Flannery may have photos from Stangapalooza.

Coffee w/ Principal – Last mtg topic was solely the Shooting.

Reflections – Wednesday is final date for entries.

College/Career  - November meeting cancelled

Senior Breakfast – will be at Seelbach and deposit has been paid.

Steinway Update – Debbie Napier reported that we will use Bank of Oldham County for donations. Republic Bank option was looked at but not feasible. Beth Serey will report deposits and depositor information to Rachel Richards so that she can write thank you notes.

October 6, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by Karen Coffey. 

Guest Speaker: Donna Allen, President of SEPTA of Oldham County, Special Education PTA gave an overview of the mission of this new organization which serves all schools in the county. Liz Glenn will be NOHS PTSA’s representative to SEPTA.  A link to SEPTA will be placed on NOHS PTSA’s website.

Minutes from the September ‘s meeting can be found on the PTSA’s website. No corrections made to minutes. 

Treasurer’s Report:

Members received copies of the monthly financial statements. To date we have 783 members. Republic Bank has offered to make a significant donation to the Steinway fundraiser if we will deposit the funds for the piano into a Republic Bank account. Debbie Napier will investigate to make sure that there are no fees relating to this account as well as a minimum balance.  

Principal’s Report:

Stangapalooza – Thanks to the PTSA for all the help with this fundraiser. All computers are here in the building and installed. Approximately $35,000 raised with students raising $16,000. 

Challengers will donate $50 to the school for Red Ribbon Week but the funds must be requested by Thursday, November 8th

Teachers vetoed any school-wide ban on backpacks. They would like to leave the issue up to individual teachers. 

School Threats – Days of proposed violence went without incident. No leads at this time however a new tip-line has been established. At the time of the meeting, no info had been received. 

Ways and Means:

Sold only two books at Open House. Extras are in the office for sale. Envelopes will go home with students in November. 

Membership: 783 members total: 30 teachers, 245 students, 508 parents. 

Communications:

Beth Scherer will try to put pictures from Stangapalooza on website. She will check with yearbook staff. 

Directories:

Directories have been distributed. Nancy Ganote has volunteered to create the directory for the next 10 years. 

Q and A with Principal:

First Q & A was well attended. Major topic of discussion was the school threats. 

Kentucky Kids Day:

Day went great and the kids loved the ice cream. 

College/Career:

Next meeting will be October 12 at NOHS (cafeteria) at 7 pm. Topic will be How to Fund College. 

Senior Breakfast:

Breakfast is scheduled for May 14th at the Seelbach Hotel. The awards ceremony will be held separately at NOHS. 

New Business:

Pyramid Awards - The PTSA will make a $100 donation to The Pyramid Awards – teachers county-wide can submit a class project for consideration. A dozen teachers will be awarded $1000 to fund their particular project. 

Criteria for NOHS scholarship from Dollars for Scholars – Our current requirements for receiving this $500 scholarship are the following: Must be a graduate of NOHS, a member of the PTSA, receiving no other scholarships from this area. No changes will be made at this time to the criteria.

September 8, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by Karen Coffey.

 

Recording Secretary’s Report:

Minutes from the August 17th meeting can be found on the PTSA’s website.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Members received copies of the monthly financial statements. To date we have 770 members and we have sold 466 directories and 158 coupon books.

 

Principal’s Report:

Mrs. Jarrett introduced senior, Rachel Richards who has undertaken the task of fundraising for a new Steinway piano for the auditorium. Rachel has been working with Gist Piano who priced a 7’ Steinway for $70,000. Fundraising to take place from Sept to Dec of 2009 with a benefit concert tentatively scheduled for October 10th. Rachel is asking that the PTSA help her in managing the flow of monies. Discussion held later in meeting with Beth Scherer motioning that we indeed help Rachel with the managing of monies and Karen Siladi seconded the motion. Motion was approved.

Awesome beginning of the school year for Mrs. Jarrett. Student population up to 895 this year.

Early dismissal days this year will have students attending 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th period classes for 35 minutes and 4th period at the end of the day for 1 hour. Supervised activities in designated areas for those students who must remain at school.

Red Cross Blood drive to be held on September 8th.

Stangapalooza will be held on September 18 to raise funding for computer equipment for the new lab. Goal is $50,000. To date the school has $15,000 from annual coca cola money, $5,000 designated from the PTSA, and $1,900 received at registration for a total of $21,900. $15,000 of equipment has already been ordered at this point. The remaining will be ordered as the money comes in.

Senior Breakfast – would like the PTSA to work with the senior sponsors in possibly combining the senior breakfast with the senior awards program due to the low attendance at last year’s award program.

 

Ways and Means:

Sold 146 coupon books at registration. Will have books in the front office for sale. Table will be set up at Open House.

Membership:

674 members to date.

Communications:

Hope to have website up and running in next couple of days.

Correspondence:

Card circulating at this meeting for Will Jones.

Hospitality:

Successful staff luncheon.

 

Coffee with Principal:

First to be held September 24th from 5:00 to 6:00 immediately before Open House.

Reflections:

Information will be sent home next week.

College/Career:

September 14th will be the first night. Appropriate for all grades. Topic: “How to Get In”.

Proposed Budget:

Only change to Beth’s proposed budget is to increase Senior Parent Breakfast income to $6,000 and increase related expenses to $7500. Kathy Coatney motioned that the change be made and Celia Taylor seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

NOHS PTSA Minutes

March 2009

 

9:00 am call to order.

 

Meeting Minutes from Feb. read and approved as read.

 

Mrs Jarrett delayed will run agenda out of order;

 

Teasurers report:  Beht Serey handed out attached report.  All is going well.

 

Barb Gargala needed to address an issue with the board that concerned fundraising across that state.  Many booster clubs and PTA clubs were offering monetary funds as reimbursements for their fund raising efforts that could later be used for school accounts for their students.  The NOHS PTA has no issue with this at present time, as we never participated in these efforts.  However school that did will need to end this practice immediately and fines from the state may be given.

 

Principal’s report:  Mrs. Jarrett changed the coffee to Thurs. at 6 since conferences are 4-6. 

Save a life changed to May 26 also on that date is teacher luncheon and SBDM election.

Graduation is set for June 13 at the Kentucky International convention center.

 

Scheduling for next year is going very well cards are due back on March 12th.

 

Parent night went very well and was well attended.

 

Membership:  Linda Onan reported 852 as a final number.  See attached report.

 

Debbie Napier was asked to add SBDM form to website.

 

Academic:  About 50 parent attended college education night.

 

Hospitality:  Liz Glenn reported, see attached report.  Sap day suggested for teachers like done at KCD.  (example,hair, nails, make up done by visiting artisits)

 

Nominations committee was presented by Barb Gargala with a second by Debbie Napier, call to vote was all for.  The committee is Nikki Feuquay, Karen Coffey and Beth Serey.

 

Reflections:  Betsy Skaggs reported that there was a very low turn out only three from NOHS.  A district reflections ceremony will be held at Oldham County Arts Center this Sunday.

 

New Business:  Reported by Barb Gargala.

  1. SBDM information needs to out ASAP on announcements.

  2. Nominating Committee to solicit and present slate.

  3.  Bus Drivers need check sent to them.  Attention Beth.

  4.  Pyramid award needs to paid.

NOHS PTSA Minutes

Feb. 3 2009

 

Meeting minutes from meeting, snowstorm day and meeting began a little later than normal.

 

In attendance Barb Gargala, Lynn Church, Linda Onan, Debbie Napier, Leslie Peak, Lisa Jarrett, Liz Glenn, Nikki Feuquay, and Beth Serey.

 

Meeting began at 9:07 am.

 

Minutes from Jan. meeting read and approved as read.

 

Principles report:  given by Lisa Jarrett.  The graduation ceremony was discussed at length and no decision as to where to hold graduation at this time.  There has been a formal request to delay AP testing due to all of the missed school days, currently awaiting a decision on this subject.  Yearly scheduling meeting is currently in time and date conflict and will need to be changed.  11 sessions are scheduled for the night at 30 minutes each. AP session is always full, so this year it will be given alphabetically so all have a chance at this session.  Accelerated courses will be offered next year for the first time which are different from AP classes.

 

Treasurers report:  See attached report from Beth Serey.  The Money market interest rate unclear at this time.  Coupon books need to be reviewed with Leslie Peak, Beth and she will meet before next meeting.

 

Coupon Books:  Leslie Peak reported looking good right now and expects to reach our goal.

 

Membership report:  852 total to date.

 

Communications:  Debbie Napier reported everything was good.

 

Senior Breakfast report:  Chad Padgett and Leah Berry are representatives.  Breakfast will be held at the Seelbach hotel on Fri.  May22.

 

Save a life tour will be given a night on the PTA at the Seelbach as our contribution to the event.

 

Academic guidance report:  Karen Coffey reported that Feb. 16 is college night, funding your education is the topic of the evening.

 

Hospitality report:  They are getting toghthter to plan the next event which is teacher appreciation week.

 

Secret pals:  Only 7 more need to be adopted.

 

New business:  Elect a nominating committee.  Beht Serey, Nikki Feuquay,a dn Karen Coffey were purposed to fill this committee.  Next meeting will be held March 3rd.  Coffee with the principle will be March 12 at 4pm.

NOHS PTSA Minutes

Jan. 6, 2009

 

In attendance for this meeting were: Nikki Feuquay, Celia Taylor, Liz Glenn, TraciShaw, Adrew Terry,Linda Onan, Jennifer Klingman, Marcia Knight, Barb Gargola, Betsy Lowe,

And Jennifer Nolte.

 

Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Minutes from November meeting presented and approved.

 

Principles report: given today by Andrew Terry.  Infinite campus is up and running but only teachers can access.  They can view but currently cannot post anything.  Jan. 12 things should go live for everyone and then they will have access to all features. Administartors are hopeing everything will go well.  There will be home portals available sometime after March for parents and students to view their attendance records, grades, and assignments.  The Principles are asking for patience from all will this transistion is made.

Save a Life Tour is being headed up by Lori Jones.  It is drunk driving program that will be an all day event for Jr. and Sr., it contains a simulator to give the student the feeling of drunk driving.  This will be held April 16, 2009 before proms.  Mr. Terry asked if PTA could put the officials of this program up in a hotel for one night for this presentation.  Basketball is already contributing towards the cost of the program as well.  Yes we can do this and Barb Gargola is checking into details, possible has free night already available to use.

 

Construction update:  Chemistry area is all but done, hallway going good as well.  Waiting on certificate of occupancy.  Gym is unlikely to be finished this school year, definitely not before basketball season is over.

 

Coupon book report:  Leslie Peak was not in attendance today but forwarded following report.  237 books have been sold @ $12 each for profit of $2844.00.  Need to sell 13 more books to reach budgeted goal of $3000.00 profit. Leslie will be putting on announcements that sale is ending soon.

 

Membership:  We are currently up to 850 members reported by Linda O’Nan.  Some discussion on how to get the kids to join, maybe an ice cream social to get them to join.  Will focus more on that next year.

 

Directories:  Reported by Barb Gargola, they are done and distributed.  Parent names omitted this year would like to make sure to get these included next year.

 

Academic:  Marcia Knight reprted that 25 pepole turned out for college information night on Jan. 5th.  Tose who attended enjoyed and found informational.  Might be nicer if held in the media center next year.

 

Hospitality:  Jennifer Nolte reported that Luncheon on Dec. 11th went well.  Next  one on April 15th for teacher appreciation week.

 

Coffee with principle will be Jan 8th at 6:00 p.m.  It was suggested that to up attendance that we might move to do a neighborhood coffee at the different club houses to get more people to attend.

 

Secret pals:  there was a consensus that pals may have run its course and more thought be put to this with next years board as if to keep it or not.

 

Community council: Reported by Betsy Lowe.  They recently visited and toured the career center and it was a good experience.  High school parents should check it out.  The next Comm. Council meeting is Jan. 22, 2009.

 

Operation spirit was post-poned until Feb. for all parents interested.

 

New business:  An idea of publishing a NOHS cookbook was brought up for next year as a fund raiser.  This must be a line item for next year on the budget and be approved before work can begin on this.

We need a nominating comm.. for Feb. meeting to get up and going.

PTSA Meeting Minutes

November 11, 2008

 

In attendance:  Karen Coffey, Lynne Church, Celia Taylor< Marcia Kight, Barbara Gargala, Leslie Peak< Lisa Jarrett, Beth Serey and Nikki Feuquay.

 

9:00 a.m. meeting called to order amd minutes from the October 7, 2008meeting were approved as presented. (see copy in officieal book)

 

Principles report: Parent teacher conferences are this evening and principles coffee is this Thursday.  Academic scheduling has began for next year and attention was brought to the Co-Op program, there is room for possible improvements if anyone has any feedback.  The Infinite campus is coming in Jan. It will replace STI.  Report cards will look different and will come from the new program.  There may be delays in parent access until program gets fully up and running, but this change is mandated by the state.  Parent information night is Feb. 19th, 2009.  Veterans day is being recognized today with a 14 minute video presentation at the end of 1st period for all students and we will let Ed Monk, Steve Raugh, and David Green we appreciate their service to our country. End of principles report.

 

High Achievers:  there will no longer be a high achievers program as in the past, but names will be posted in the hallways to congratulate the students.

 

Treasurers report:  9090 tax form is complete and sent in reported treasurer, Beth Serey. $4000 is in money market and $8740.50 is in checking currently.

 

1st VP Report:  Leslie Peak gave report on coupon book sales.  Our goal was 250 and currently we have sold 215.  Profit of 2500 vs. 3000 on budget.  Office staff has handled a great deal of the handleing this year and we appreciate all their effort.

 

Membership:  Linda O’Nan has 843 members and 11 teachers at this time.  Ms. Jarrett has sent out another encouraging e-mail to teachers asking for their participation.

 

Karen Huberd and Tom Clemons sent thank you notes to the PTA for our hard work and the luncheon we provided.

 

No Communications report at this time.

 

Directories:  The printing is running behind, not getting information very quickly.  This needs to be reconsidered for next year and possible even made a special chair position to get the required information processed.

 

Senior Breakfast:  Will be on May 22 with awards following. More information to follow.

 

Academic:   Karen Coffey reported that UK/UL night Nov. 17th and funding college education night will be on Dec. 1st.

 

Hospitality:  Teacher Luncheon set for December 11, 2008.

 

Secret Pals:  15 remaining pals are being past around by several generous people at this time.

 

New Business:  Nov. 20th Community Council meeting at Lagrange Elementary.

Dates to remember:

 PTA Holiday get together at Beth Serey’s Dec.2, 2008, more information to follow.

PTSA Meeting Minutes

 October 7, 2008

 

In attendance: Nikki Feuquay, Celia Taylor, Jennifer Klingman, Karen Coffey, Cathy Steinfeld, Traci Shaw, Liz Glenn, Leslie Peak, Lisa Jarrett, Linda O’Nan, Barbara Gargala, Beth Serey.

 

9:00 am call to order.

 

The budget was handed out and explained by Beth Serey with no questions at the present time.

Reva Campbell reported on the current fundraiser at Snappy Tomatoes that recently brought in $86.90 ($21.73 was NOHS profit).  This is an on going fundraiser so keep buying pizzas.

 

Leslie Peak reported on the coupon book fundraiser.  Some books have been misprinted and are currently being taken care of and swapped out.  Envelopes went home with every student and announcements are on going to remind everyone that they are for sale.  Sales are somewhat slow at the present time, about 180 sold currently.  We could possibly lower our expectation on this fundraiser next year.

 

Ms. Jarrett began her Principals report by thanking everyone for the staff luncheon and for senior treats.  Moving on to talk about staff PTA memberships and that she would like to see this increase and she would urge the staff to join.

 

Fire Drill #1 all had to leave to go outside.

 

Principles report will be e-mailed to everyone due to fire drill interruption.  See attached.

 

Return from fire drill and began membership report.  Currently there are 813 paid members and 11 teachers.  There were 10 to 12 monitory donations given and correspondence secretary was ask to send thank you notes accordingly.

 

Academic and Guidance report:  December 1st Funding your college at NOHS 7:00, November 17 red/blue night at South.  The question was raised about separating the Funding your college to 2 different nights with one being in the Spring.  No conclusion was made.

 

High |Achievers:  Discussion to change the program back to parties for each grade level with the grade level representatives responsible for handling.  This still needed to be discussed with Ms. Jarrett and would be discussed further at next meeting.

 

Hospitality reported that back to school luncheon was a great success.  It was noted that Liz, Cathy and Jennifer did a great job.

 

Secret pals still has 15 available teachers that need to be taken.

Reflections chair e-mailed that the deadline for reflections has been extended to Nov. 6th, 2008.

 

Kentucky Kids day was postponed to a later date possibly after the first of the year, Valentines day would be good idea, due to the power outage and our week off school because of it.

 

Directories were discussed and possibly needs re-evaluated for next year.  We need a person to help with preparing all the information that is to be given to the printer.  It is a big job and needs its own chair to handle it.  Barb will need help when the directories come in.  She will e-mail everyone with the particulars.  It was suggested that communications director could take this the directory data processing.

-Treasurer’s report:  The actual monthly report will be finalized after individual

      committees submit their reports of activity.  The proposed budget was presented

      and will be put forth for approval on 9/4/08 at the Principal’s Coffee/general PTSA

      meeting.

-Lisa Jarrett’s report:  Discussed great start of the school year; construction completion

      dates have varied and continue to be subject to change as interior and exterior work

      continues; 9/04/08 6 P.M. Open House format discussed; 9/15/08 Volunteer Luncheon

      for those who helped get ready for the opening day; the three make-up days were

     discussed and are to be decided at the next school board meeting…01/02/09 is the most

     debated but other options are very limited.

-Ways and Means:  166 coupon books sold at registration; envelopes only for additional

      orders will go home to the students this year; Snappy Tomato fundraiser is in progress;

      Reva has also arranged fundraising through Java Brewing Company but details are

      unknown at this time.

-Membership:  376 total membership since registration.

-Communications:  Web site fees for this year are paid.  Submit info for web site to Debbie

-Academic and Guidance:  College/Career night information distributed through daily

      announcements, newspapers, etc.

-Hospitality:  Staff luncheon on 9/30/08…sign up sheet for food circulated.  Breakfast

      items were provided for the staff at the start of school.

-Secret Pals:  Approx. 30 names of staff members still need to be taken.  Need to

      reevaluate this program for next year.

-Reflections:  This year’s theme is “Wow”

-Kentucky Kids Day: Ice cream bar during lunch hour on 9/20/08…will recruit donations

      through parent reps.

-Meeting adjourned at 10:11 A.M.
