GENERAL PARENTING

"Hurt: Inside the World of Today's Teenagers"
(Youth, Family, and Culture) by Chap Clark
If parents, educators, and youth workers were to read only one book about helping adolescence-this would be the one. Chap Clark managed to get inside the world of US teenagers and reveal the depths of the angst, pressure and loneliness they feel. Hurt is a illuminates the under layers of teen culture, the places where adolescents are most honest and vulnerable, only to discover that today’s youth are indeed a tribe apart.

"A Tribe Apart" by Patricia Hersch
Patricia Hersch spent over three years submerging herself in the adolescent culture of suburban Virginia in order to write A Tribe Apart: A Journey Into the Heart of American Adolescence. Why do teenagers so often seem like a different species? Journalist Patricia Hersch gives a troubling answer in her fascinating, up-close-and-personal look at what it means to be a teen in today's American high schools. Rather than interviewing "high-risk" teens (those already swept up in a cycle of drug use, gang violence, or unintended pregnancy, for example), Hersch focuses her attention on "regular kids"--adolescents who are average achievers on academic and social levels. In light of this, A Tribe Apart is all the more startling to read: Hersch's investigative approach makes it impossible for parents to shrug off their responsibilities by saying "That's not my kid." This is your kid.

"Bullying from Both Sides" by Walter B. Roberts, Jr.                                                  The ultimate guide to recognizing and reducing bullying behaviors in school!
